Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday, May 11, detailed how President William Ruto’s team believed Defence CS Aden Duale would stick with former President Uhuru Kenyatta despite being ousted as the National Assembly Leader of the Majority.
Speaking during the launch of Duale’s book, For the Record, at Serena Hotel, Nairobi, the CS reiterated Duale’s loyalty to the former president.
He indicated some Ruto diehards had even given up on wooing Duale to Kenya Kwanza, then identified as the Tanga Tanga side.
According to Murkomen, Duale did not openly meet with Ruto, unlike other allies, as he opted to visit the incumbent at night.

“Even when you were axed from your position. I actually thought you would go with Uhuru. We had given up.
“When we used to make normal phone calls and declare publicly our plans for Uhuru, he (Duale) still called on Whatsapp. Duale would come at night and sit with the President,” he stated.
Murkomen opined that Uhuru resorted to dewhip Duale after discovering he was loyal to Ruto.
“Uhuru had to oust you as he knew you would not sit in a meeting where they planned against Ruto,” he stated.
On the other hand, he indicated that Duale’s tribulation bolstered Ruto’s presidential campaign, given his political experience.
He added that the Defence CS often strategised with the team on how they would convey their messages at rallies hence the decision to have him talk last.
“Even in the hardest times, there is no day Duale betrayed Uhuru. Not a single day. He never sabotaged a single government agenda,” the CS added.
Duale was ousted as the NA leader of the majority on June 22, 2020, after Uhuru convened a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting at KICC.
Details of the 22-minute meeting are documented as a chapter in the book.
