May 11, (THEWILL) – In a hard-fought semi-final clash between Juventus and Sevilla, Juventus managed to salvage a last-gasp equaliser, thanks to Federico Gatti’s header from a very late corner.
The semi-final, therefore, remained evenly poised, providing an unpredictable outcome for the Europa League competition. Both teams faced injury concerns, with Gleison Bremer and Mattia De Sciglio sidelined for Juventus, and Federico Chiesa left on the bench. Sevilla, on the other hand, missed the services of Suso, Tanguy Nianzou, Joan Jordan, Marcao, and the cup-tied Pape Gueye.
The match was characterised by several missed opportunities, with Filip Kostic and Lucas Ocampos coming close to scoring for their respective teams. Dusan Vlahovic squandered a golden chance to put Juventus ahead when he missed an open goal. However, Sevilla capitalised on their chances and took the lead through Youssef En-Nesyri, who calmly finished a cross from Bryan Gil.
As frustration grew for Juventus, Max Allegri made changes, bringing on Federico Chiesa and Samuel Iling-Junior to inject pace and attacking threat. In the dying moments of the game, a corner kick allowed Paul Pogba to set up Federico Gatti for a crucial equaliser, giving Juventus hope.
The Old Lady will face Cremonese in Serie A next, while Sevilla will play Real Valladolid in La Liga.
