Cancer is a disease caused by abnormal growth of cells in the body. Our body is made up of millions of cells, and they normally grow and divide in an organised and controlled way. However, sometimes, due to certain changes or mutations in the DNA of the cells, they start to grow uncontrollably, forming a mass of tissue called a tumor. Not all tumors are cancerous, as some are benign and do not spread to other parts of the body. There are different types of cancer, and the exact causes of cancer are not fully understood. However, research has shown that there are certain risk factors that can increase the likelihood of developing cancer, such as age, family history of cancer, exposure to harmful substances like tobacco, radiation, and certain chemicals, and unhealthy lifestyle habits like a poor diet, lack of exercise, and obesity.

Cancer can affect any part of the body, and symptoms can vary depending on the type and stage of cancer. Some common signs and symptoms include unexplained weight loss, fatigue, pain, and changes in bowel or bladder habits. However, in some cases, cancer may not cause any symptoms until it has advanced to a later stage. Treatment for cancer usually involves a combination of different approaches, such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and targeted therapy. The choice of treatment depends on the type and stage of cancer, as well as the patient’s overall health and preferences.
