SAN FRANCISCO WARRIORS’ JORDAN POOLE FOCUSES ON GROWTH AFTER STRUGGLES IN PLAYOFFS

Jordan Poole, the Golden State Warriors’ fourth-year guard, reflected on his performance in the Western Conference semifinals and looked forward to the offseason, working to improve on his struggles amid a role change. Poole had a poor performance in the playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round, leading some to question the four-year, $128 million extension he signed in the fall. Despite criticism, Poole remained focused on improvement rather than proving people wrong.

The 2021-22 season was a standout year for Poole, starting 51 regular-season games while the team’s stars were out due to injury and starting all five games of the Warriors’ first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets. However, this season was different as his role changed and the supporting cast around him was inconsistent due to injuries and absences. As the Warriors head into the offseason, one of their priorities is figuring out how to retool the roster.

In his exit interview, Poole remained confident and focused on improvement. While reflecting on his dip in performance this season, he attributed it to a role change but also acknowledged that he wanted to be more of a facilitator, trying to get his teammates easy shots. Despite the struggles, his confidence never wavered, and his teammates recognize his willingness to learn and grow. Donte DiVincenzo praised Poole’s confidence and acknowledged that they would need it to move forward.

In the offseason, the Warriors will have to determine whether general manager Bob Myers will be back, whether Draymond Green will pick up his player option, and what to do with rotation players. Younger players such as Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, or even Poole could be used in a trade package to get more veteran players. As Poole continues to work on his game and grow, the Warriors will have to make calculated decisions to remain a contender in the ever-competitive NBA.
