The 2022/23 Premier Soccer League (PSL) action is edging closer to the end, leaving Kaizer Chiefs supporters agitated after a disappointing season, while Polokwane City is rejoicing after they gained automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership.

Polokwane City rise and shine into the PSL

Limpopo outfit Polokwane City return to South Africa’s top-flight football after being confirmed the winners of the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the weekend.

Rise and Shine were level on 57 points with runners-up Cape Town Spurs, but won the championship with a better goal difference.

Spurs and third-placed Casric Stars will now battle it out in the play-offs with the hope to also march on to the DStv Premiership.

Nine-men Sundowns hold Wydad to a goalless draw

Mamelodi Sundowns displayed yet another impressive performance against the hostile north African supporters when they played to a 0-0 draw with nine men in their CAF Champions League semi-final first leg against Wydad Casablanca.

Neo Maema and Marcelo Allende were sent for a quick shower after picking up red cards for dangerous tackles. The positive attitude of coach Rulani Mokwena’s troops showed why they are favorites to win this year’s Champions League.

Arthur Zwane attacked by angry fans

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane faced the wrath of frustrated supporters at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium following his side’s 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United on Saturday.

Zwane was reportedly struck in the eye when an object was hurled at him. This despite being flanked and escorted by the police on his way out of the field. Chiefs lost their 11th game of the season for the first time in the PSL era.

Xavi wins Barca La Liga bragging rights

Xavi guided Barcelona to their historic 27th La Liga title after beating city rivals Espanyol 4-2 on Sunday night.

Barca snatched the league title from long-time foes Madrid, who have been inconsistent this season under coach Carlo Ancelotti.
