The Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba Ahmed had said a few weeks ago that the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria because he has not satisfied the provision of the constitution. CONTINUE READING>

The words of Datti had garnered a lot of mixed reactions. Senator Datti speaking on Monday at a conference organized by the coalition of Nigerians living in the United Kingdom stated that his posture remains the same about the President-elect.

Although he identified that he had refrained not to speak for a while due to the respect he has for certain people. He however noted that democracy has to be practiced for the people of the country. CONTINUE READING>>

He stated categorically that the dividends of democracy belongs to the people. And that if the democracy is not serving this specific purpose, then it is not serving the people.

He said, ”I am speaking about a constitution which says what must happen before there can be a validly elected President. I am here to encourage your sense of Nationalism. I don’t have much to say as you very well know that the very little that I have said has rattled the system, so out of respect for those who have advised before now, I won’t say much.

Democracy belongs to the people who can practice it and the dividends of democracy belong to the people who can extract it. Struggling to practice democracy is not healthy. I am speaking in general terms so that no minister will fly to New York and make allegations against me.” CONTINUE READING>
