May 29, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s U-20 national women’s team has garnered recognition at the ongoing WAFU 20 Girls Cup of Nations in Ghana, as six of their players have been selected by CAF for the Best XI Team of the group stage.

Alongside the talented Nigerian players, four Ghanaians and one player from Burkina Faso have also earned their place in this esteemed lineup. These six Falconets players played crucial roles in leading Nigeria to the top of Group B, emerging victorious in all three games played thus far in the tournament without conceding.

Their journey commenced with an emphatic 7-0 triumph over Niger in the opening match, followed by an impressive 6-0 win against Togo. They concluded the group stage with a convincing 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso on matchday three. All of these exhilarating encounters took place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Best XI team boasts an exceptional defensive line, with four Nigerian prodigies at the forefront. This formidable backline includes goalkeeper Anderline Mgbaechi, left-back Jumoke Alani, centre-back Shukurat Oladipo, and right-back Oluchi Ohaegbukem, all of whom played integral roles in maintaining clean sheets throughout the group stage.

In the heart of the midfield, the dynamic Chinyere Kalu joins forces with two talented Ghanaian stars. Leading the attack, prolific Nigerian striker Esther Ajakaye secures her place alongside Ghana’s Nyame and Burkina Faso’s Sadikou. Ajakaye has emerged as the standout player of the tournament, leaving an indelible mark with an impressive tally of six goals in just three games, solidifying her position as the leading goal scorer.
