Stay away from our proceedings, ‘no court order mandating your recall’ – Senate tells Natasha

By EZEKIEL OBI, Abuja-

Senate has advised suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to refrain from attending its proceedings, citing the absence of a court order mandating her recall.

“There is no enforceable order directing her immediate return to the chamber”, Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu, said in a statement on Sunday.

Senator Adaramodu said that despite a recent court judgment, there is no positive or mandatory order directing the Senate to recall Akpoti-Uduaghan before the end of her suspension.

It would be recalled that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 for violating Senate rules following a seat arrangement dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual misconduct.

The Senate emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and the integrity of its proceedings.

“The Senate, as a law-abiding institution, is committed to upholding the rule of law and the integrity of its proceedings. It will not tolerate the disruption of its proceedings”, he said.

Adaramodu urged Akpoti-Uduaghan to allow due process to run its course, saying the Senate would consider the court’s advisory opinion on her recall at the appropriate time.

“Until then, she is respectfully advised to stay away from the Senate chambers and allow due process to run its full course”, he said.

The Senate emphasized that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s attempt to storm the chamber without a valid recall order would undermine the dignity of the Senate and violate due process.
