The re-elected governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s win in the 2023 general elections has been described by the Lagos State Government as free, fair, and credible due to the facts and figures associated with them.

The statement was made by Gbenga Omotosho, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and strategy while answering questions during a TVC programme, “Politics Standpoint”.

According to him, the government said the alleged violence and intimidation were perpetrated by those that alleged the anomalies. He also described Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s reign as “the best we have had in our recent history” while thanking the electorate for re-electing them.

Omotosho said that Lagos unique selling point is described by the state’s value of peaceful co-existence, religious and ethnic tolerance.

Omotosho’s statement also revealed that he observed the figures given by local and international observers during the elections showed that the elections held in Lagos were free, fair, and credible.

He also said that the cases of alleged voter intimidation and suppression that happened in less than one percent of the over 13, 325 polling units, even if true, could not have any impact on the elections credibility.

The commissioner saidSanwo-Olu’s re-election was not based on sentiments but on his records and performance in his first four years. He further criticized opposition parties for running campaigns based on religion and ethnicity sentiments which divided the state.

He encouraged the residents to uphold what the governor said in his acceptance speech. “The core values of Lagos State is entrenched in its resilience to always embrace peaceful tolerance, mutual respect and love for ourselves, which saw us through the turbulent times of COVID-19 pandemic.” He said.

He also encouraged the residents to look forward to what the future holds for Lagos in the Sanwo-Olu administration.  “The state is set to ensure the completion of bigger developmental projects that will show that the state government remains accountable to the residents.” He added.
