As things stand, in two months’ time Messi will once again be without a club, with his deal at Paris Saint-Germain set to expire in June.

The 35-year-old found himself in a similar situation in 2021 prior to joining Les Parisiens, but it appears the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is edging ever closer calling time on his stint in the French capital.

While an extension in Paris was mooted at the beginning of 2023, it seems there is now a reluctance from Messi to stay at the Parc des Princes, and according to Mundo Deportivo, an opening has presented itself to Barcelona to land Messi’s signature come the end of the campaign.

The Spanish club has made its intention to bring the Rosario native back to the Camp Nou public, with vice-president Rafa Yuste announcing as much late in March.

The same report claims that just as important to finding the adequate funds to facilitate Messi’s return will be Blaugrana president Joan Laporta’s call to the football icon.
