United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on Sunday, April 16, clarified that reports of her private conversation stating that she did not trust President William Ruto had been distorted by the media.

In a statement through the UN Information Centre(UNIC) in Nairobi, the deputy SG stated that the leaked files were not a true representation of her perception of the Head of State.

The statement added that the Deputy Secretary-General had been a strong voice for African leadership to the International audience.

“The distorted and out-of-context reporting of the Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed’s private conversation does not in any way reflect her views and opinion.

“Throughout her career, she has been an impeachable strong voice of Africa and its leadership on the international scene,” the statement read in part.

Further, Amina stated that she had full confidence in the President and was looking forward to their meeting later in the month that had earlier been scheduled.

“The Deputy Secretary-General has full confidence and respect for the leadership of President William Ruto and looks forward to travelling to Nairobi later this month for a previously scheduled trip.

“She looks forward to meeting with the President of Kenya and the UN leadership,” added the statement,”  the statement added.

The deputy SG appreciated the Kenyan government for its continuous support and for being a generous host to its institutions.

“Kenya has been through the decades and continues to be a very generous host to UN institutions and a very important contributor to the international agenda,” it noted.

On April 13, reports emerged of the leaked files from Pentagon claiming that Amina confessed to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that Ruto was ruthless and that she did not trust him.

However, United Nations (UN) spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced Amina’s visit to Kenya on Friday, April 14, dismissing the reports on the leaked documents.

The leaked documents first appeared on Discord – a social media platform popular among gamers.
