May 01, (THEWILL) – Liverpool secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with manager Jurgen Klopp’s exuberant goal celebrations stealing the show.
The German coach raced down the touchline in celebration after Diogo Jota scored Liverpool’s winner in the dying moments of the game, before pulling up sharply with what looked like a hamstring injury. Klopp was booked for his troubles and later said, “I’m not sure if it’s the hamstring, it could be the adductor but I got punished. Little sins immediately.”
Despite Liverpool’s fourth successive league win, their hopes of a top-four finish remain slim. Klopp’s team is currently in fifth place, trailing Manchester United and Newcastle by seven and nine points, respectively. Their chances of securing a Europa League spot look more promising, although Klopp expressed concerns about his side’s game management after they allowed a crumbling Tottenham side to come back from a 3-0 lead.
He also noted the progress being made by teams around them. “Brighton played one of the best football games this weekend I’ve ever seen in my life, I have to say, Roberto De Zerbi, wow. Aston Villa are developing. If we can keep them behind us that will already be a success.”
THEWILL recalls that Brighton beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-0 and are currently four points behind Liverpool with two games in hand. Klopp’s team will need to continue to win football games to have any chance of qualifying for Europe next season.
