Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, has donated cash and two trailer-load of 10 kilograms rice to members and camp officials of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state. He disclosed this, yesterday, when he paid an unscheduled visit to the camp at Dakingari, promising he would also complete a male hostel before he leaves office on May 29, 2023. Bagudu, who addressed the 2023 Batch A Stream II corps, currently undergoing orientation, congratulated them for successful completion of various courses, and induction into the scheme. He noted uniqueness in the timing of their participation, which coincides with NYSC’s 50th anniversary “of uniting the country”. According to him, “one of the most important innovations that has happened to Nigeria, since independence, is NYSC.” He, therefore, urged the corps members to take the mandatory service year seriously and be solution providers in their host communities. “I encourage you to tell the Nigerian story yourselves, rather than let the media define the country. I equally advise you on the importance of making meaningful friendships and having shared experiences,” he said. He described distance and fear as challenges corps members need to overcome to make sacrifices for national unity, urging them to accept their deployment to Kebbi State in good faith, as God could have good reasons for bringing them there. In her address, State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Okolo Agatha Banki, told the governor 1,350 corps members were registered and have, since, acclimatised with the environment, exhibiting a high level of discipline. She also thanked the governor for the visit, describing the gesture as a privilege.
