The Canadian government has announced a new policy to expedite the approval of family reunification applications.
This was announced on Friday, May 26, 2022, few days after the UK government banned students from Nigeria and other foreign countries on study visas from bringing their families into the country.
Sean Fraser, Canadian immigration minister, explained that the new policies were put in place to strengthen family reunification in Canada.
He said the new system will allow spouses, children, and parents of recent immigrants to join their loved ones in Canada faster.
He added that under the new policy, applications for Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs) for family members of citizens and permanent residents are processed in 30 days thanks to cutting-edge technology and analytics.
Furthermore, he claimed that 98% of applications for TRV from spouses and their children had already been accepted by the method.
Additionally, he unveiled a new initiative that will grant open work permits to spouse applicants and their dependent children, regardless of whether they submitted an application under the Family class as an overseas applicant or as an applicant for a spouse or common-law partner in Canada.
