The NCAA softball tournament field was shrunk to 16 this weekend, and there is one more hurdle to clear before eight teams make the trip to the Women’s College World Series.
The super regionals are set to begin on Thursday, with Florida State facing a Game 1 challenge from Georgia before Oklahoma State battles Oregon. Thursday’s games give way to full days of action on Friday and Saturday before some potential winner-take-all games on Sunday.
All eyes will be on No. 1 Oklahoma, which has dominated the nation this season with an impeccable 54-1 record. The Sooners are heavily favored against No. 16 Clemson, but anything is possible at this stage of the season — as evidenced by No. 2 seed UCLA’s stunning regional exit after losses to Grand Canyon and Liberty.
Meanwhile, three unseeded teams emerged from their regions and are looking to complete a surprise run to the College World Series: Oregon, San Diego State, and Louisiana.
