English Premier League table 2022/23: Updated EPL standings as Man City stay top

Man City are now one win away from clinching the 2022/23 Premier League title after they won their most recent match, while second-place Arsenal lost at home to Brighton.

A win at home against Chelsea on Sunday would clinch the title for City, but an Arsenal loss the day before at Nottingham Forest will be enough to give Man City their third consecutive crown before they take the field.

In the race for the top four, it’s three teams fighting for two places as Newcastle and Manchester United look to hold off a late Liverpool charge. The Reds are one point behind, hoping for one or both of the Magpies or Red Devils to drop points in two of their last three.

Southampton were mathematically relegated with two matches remaining in the season. Four other teams are battling to avoid the other two relegation spots, but it’s looking bleak for Leicester City, who head to Newcastle next. Nottingham Forest also have a tough match against Arsenal, while Leeds and Everton have more winnable matches on paper.

Below is the full Premier League table followed by a snapshot of each race.

Premier League title race

The Premier League title race is all but over, as Manchester City are four points clear with three games to play, while Arsenal have only two games to make up that difference.

With Man City having won 11 games in a row, it would take a historic collapse for them to fail to claim the title. They can mathematically secure the crown with a win over Chelsea on Sunday, May 21.

Champions League places, European places

The top four in the table automatically qualify to next season’s Champions League group stage. Fifth place, along with the FA Cup winner, qualify directly to the Europa League group stage.

With Manchester United winning the Carabao Cup and also on track to finish in the top four, that means the Conference League qualifying spot that is awarded to the Carabao winners will be passed on to the 6th-place team in the Premier League table (for now).

If Man City or Man United win the FA Cup and also finish in the top four, then the Europa League group stage spot that comes with winning that trophy would go to 6th place, while the Conference League qualifying spot gets bumped down to the 7th place team.

European places as of Monday, May 15:

Champions League berths (4): Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Man United
Europa League berths (2): Liverpool, FA Cup winner
Conference League qualifying berth (1): Brighton

Premier League relegation

It’s the bottom five teams that will be the ones battling to avoid the three relegation trap doors with two matches remaining for most teams.

Last-place Southampton have been mathematically relegated, and so all eyes will be on the four teams directly above them who are within four points of each other. Leicester City (at Newcastle) and Nottingham Forest (vs. Arsenal) have on paper the toughest matches on the penultimate weekend.
