In order to enable the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly prosecute violators of the electoral Act during the recently concluded February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has directed all Commissioners of Police (CPs) to, as a matter of urgency, conclude the investigations and submit all case files to INEC.
He also charge the CPs to engage stakeholders in their respective jurisdictions through town hall meetings and other viable avenues before the March 18 governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
This, according to the IGP, is to ensure all-inclusive election security management and accord Nigerians benefits/leverage of active participation, to achieve free, fair, and credible elections.
In a statement by the Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi (CSP), the IGP, further urged well-meaning members of the public to collaborate with the Police and other law enforcement agencies saddled with election security management.
This, he noted, is to ensure a hitch-free security architecture for all and sundry particularly the electorates, accredited observers, INEC officials and materials so that all citizens can exercise their franchise without molestation, harassment and security threats.
