Visitors to Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos were treated to a beautiful Mother’s Day outing thanks to heavy winter rains. The reservoir is currently 95% full, which has allowed for some memorable experiences.
Andrea, an avid outdoor enthusiast, and her twin boys had a fantastic time enjoying a feast on the grill, picnicking on the grass, and swimming in the inviting body of water. She noted that nature was blooming due to all the rain, and the warm weather was finally making an appearance, making it the best Mother’s Day ever.
The higher water levels were not only enjoyable for visitors but also crucial for one local rowing team. A dragon boat crew from Santa Cruz was getting into shape for a significant competition next week, and their practice was easier with deeper water. Crew captain Nicole Loo explained that practicing with low water levels meant that they could not practice because they would end up running into the mud, and they just could not go anywhere. So good water levels were super important.
On top of the high water levels, the warmer weather at Vasona Lake County Park on Mother’s Day was ideal for all the moms and family members celebrating them. Picnickers loved spending time with their family members, and one Iranian American family had a sort of “changing of the guard.” The younger generation was taking over and treating their elders to lunch, which was appreciated by Roxy Gribben of Los Gatos, who added, “it’s kind of nice that they’re taking over.”
