“We struggle so much to ensure our kids are well-rounded people. However, the harsh criticism from society is daunting. No woman wants to raise her children on her own. It is not by choice, circumstances force us to think of a better future for our kids without the financial, spiritual and physical input of their fathers. It is not an easy mantle to carry.”She added that single women must rise to the occasion despite the challenges; they have consistently proven strong, capable, and resilient.

They juggle multiple responsibilities, from providing for their children to managing the household.

They are also a source of emotional support for their children, and they often have to play both the role of a mother and a father.

Harsh criticism from society Ngungi further added that single motherhood is often stigmatised in society, with many people assuming that these women are somehow to blame for their circumstances.

However, the reality is that being a single mom is often the result of circumstances beyond their control, such as divorce, separation, or the death of a spouse.

She said it is cruel to judge these women and make assumptions about their lives without understanding their challenges.

She advocated for their plight and emphasised the importance of recognising the challenges that single moms face and providing them with the support they need to thrive.
