ESPN has announced that former NFL punter Pat McAfee will bring his popular sports talk show, “The Pat McAfee Show,” to the network this fall as part of a multiyear deal. The show will air live weekdays simultaneously on ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN’s YouTube channel, as the network plans to announce its new weekday afternoon schedule before the show’s launch.
ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro referred to McAfee as a “proven talent” and praised the show’s engaging content. He said that “The Pat McAfee Show” is a “destination for athlete interviews and breaking news” and that it would be a “centerpiece of a growing community of sports fans.” ESPN plans to feature “SportsCenter” as part of the show’s schedule.
McAfee’s show, co-hosted by former NFL linebacker A.J. Hawk, has gained national attention since its inception in 2019. It currently streams on McAfee’s YouTube channel, further promoting his genial and personable demeanour. The show has weekly interviews with quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the NFL season.
In addition, McAfee will continue his analyst role on ESPN’s “College GameDay” and host alternate broadcasts of ESPN’s college football telecasts.
McAfee expressed his gratitude to ESPN for providing him with the opportunity, stating that he is “extremely honored.” He added, “We do not take that lightly and are going to work hard to make sure this is a success.”
McAfee also stated that despite “The Pat McAfee Show” moving to ESPN, the show’s substance and style would remain the same, stating that “We ain’t changing a damn thing. Every other word is good to go.”
The network also announced a new documentary series of tennis champion, Serena Williams. “In the Arena: Serena Williams” has started production and is following in the footsteps of the 2021 “Man in the Arena: Tom Brady” series. The Williams episode will feature how the tennis player won 23 singles titles in grand slam tournaments.
Overall, ESPN’s acquisition of “The Pat McAfee Show” is a significant boost for the network and recognises the show’s popularity. The addition of the documentary series, “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” further enhances ESPN’s reputation for producing and broadcasting quality programming.
