May 18, (THEWILL) – Manchester City booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final with an impressive 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final clash.
The victory at the Etihad Stadium showcased City’s dominance throughout the match, leaving little doubt about their deserving spot in the final. Pep Guardiola’s men will now face Inter Milan as they aim to claim their first-ever European Cup.
Right from the start, Manchester City displayed their attacking prowess, coming close to taking the lead early on. Erling Haaland’s opportunity was thwarted by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who forced the Norwegian striker wide. Despite City’s initial chances, the breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Bernardo Silva netted a goal after a clever pass from the talismanic Kevin De Bruyne.
Real Madrid struggled to find a response and showed minimal signs of life. Toni Kroos managed to hit the crossbar from long range, providing a brief moment of tension for the home supporters. However, Manchester City remained unfazed and swiftly doubled their lead through Silva, who headed in a rebound after Ilkay Gundogan’s shot was blocked by Eder Militao.
In the second half, Real Madrid made some timid attempts to regain control but failed to make significant progress. A powerful free-kick from David Alaba and another near miss from Kroos showcased the visitors’ limited threat. City continued their onslaught, with Julian Alvarez sealing the victory by calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner to make it 4-0. City’s attention now turns to their upcoming EPL match against Chelsea, while Real Madrid will face Sevilla in La Liga.
