Two Arrested, One Injured As Police Foil Kidnappers’ Hideout, Rescue Victims In Ogun

July 20, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued three abducted victims unhurt and dismantled a suspected kidnappers’ hideout following a gun battle in the Ajebo area of Owode-Egba.

Police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abeokuta at the weekend.

She explained that officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a rescue operation after receiving reports of the abduction around Ajebo on July 16.

According to Odutola, the operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout on July 18 and successfully rescued the victims at about 9:00 p.m., following a fierce exchange of gunfire.

“During the operation, two of the kidnappers were arrested with gunshot injuries, while one managed to escape into the forest with bullet wounds,” she said.

Items recovered from the hideout included one AK-47 rifle with breech number 5005584, loaded with 139 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, one magazine, a cutlass, a chain and padlock believed to have been used to restrain the victims, ₦1,200,035 suspected to be proceeds of crime, and several mobile phones.

Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, said a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other members of the gang.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.

The statement partly read: “The Ogun State Police Command, in its continuous commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens and maintaining a firm stance against violent crime, recorded a significant breakthrough in a kidnapping case reported on July 16, 2025.

“Following expert surveillance and intelligence gathering, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit rescued the three victims unharmed on July 18, at about 2100hrs.

“During the operation, the kidnappers engaged the police team in a gun duel. In the ensuing exchange of fire, two suspects were fatally wounded, while others escaped deeper into the forest with injuries”
